Conspiracies of the Right

Clarence Thomas is not stupid, despite what everyone thinks. He's also considerably more centrist than his voting record indicates. He votes with Scalia all the time because he's being blackmailed. The Bush family's people have sexual-harassment dirt on him that they sat on during the confirmation hearings, but if they leaked it, he'd be toast, appointment for life or not. So they threaten him with exposure if he ever deviates from a hard-right line, even though he's a middle-of-the-road Republican, personally. He's attempted suicide a couple of times in the last decade; his legendary silence on the bench is actually the symptom of a deep and prolonged depression.

The media and entertainment industries had a shrewd roll-out strategy for taking over politics. First off the entertainment companies and finance wonks that started running them aligned themseves with media and information companies. Then, instead of thinking about it in free market senses, think about it in the classic political influence model. They worked on the liberals and Democrats. They sold them some honky about their work being either art or journalism and, therefore, something to be protected by all those great government-sponsored rights for humankind. Then war happens to break out, and now they have further convinced the conservatives and Republicans that they're here to entertain and all that blood and guts in movies help turn our population into freedom-loving Americans. Plus they get some place else to stump for their movies besides Jay Leno.

The bomb that killed three Americans was actually dropped deliberately in an attempt to take out Hamid Karzai and delay the formation of a provisional government until the U.S. can deploy enough ground troops to effectively intimidate its "allies" in urban regions.

Bush is using the military tribunals to secretly kill all Arab males in the U.S. between the ages of 15 and 35. Other than the secrecy, he needs the military rules so he can execute minors, which civilian courts wouldn't allow.
